
Math and Science
Mathematics will focus on development and mastery of basic skills in order to reach full competency in arithmetic and basic geometry. Content will include basic operations, the order of operations, ratio and proportion, fractions, operations with fractions, numerical attributes of basic shapes, area, volume, basic graphical representations, and facility with translating word problems into mathematical symbols. Formal courses in algebra, geometry, intermediate algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus will follow.
Science instruction in Grades 5, 6, and 7 will focus on observation and measurement of the natural world and the basic physical laws and biological relationships within it. The Academy will offer formal courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science in succeeding academic years. Opportunities will be provided for students to select to sit for Advanced Placement examinations.
